Childhood is a precarious state to be in - a place of profound and asymmetric vulnerability and frustration, where one has no meaningful ownership of one’s body and decisions. The powers that rule over you seem enormous and absurd, their logic incomprehensible. Much like in a horror film, any attempts at resistance are doomed for failure.
